Rogerio and Jessica were walking around the city of Lagoa do Carro visiting with people about Jesus!! Praise God as my children are following in their father's footsteps.

Afternoon at Boa Viagem Beach

Our group went to Recife to the beach. Our plan was to spend a couple hours at the beach and go over to the park and play basketball on the outside courts and then share the gospel using one of our skits. You see those clouds in the sky well they came our way and we got rained out! Maybe another time. The kids enjoyed the water for a couple of hours

This picture is taken durng the basketball clinic in Lagoa do Carro. We alway stop in the middle of the clinic sto have a skit and share. This day Priscila was using a picture to tell about Jesus. The kids were all listening and quiet!!

These are all the girls at Hawaiin Party! We had a great evening with lots of fruit and ice cream. God Bless this group as they headed out today to Piaui to share about Jesus with lots of kids and teens through sports. This is our deck over the garage. It is a great place for parties.

Evangelism Training in Lagoa do Carro

This is Matheus from Sao Paulo and Diego who works at the school with us here in Carpina. They turned out to become the best of friends! They are reading the Bible together

Hawaii and Ice Cream Party

Before the mission team headed out to Piaui we had a Hawaii and ice cream party. Lots of fruit and ice cream with all the toppings. Simone and Priscila have spent too much time with me. My love of having parties has rubbed off on them!! They planned and did most of the work. Then even had the games pllanned during the party. We invited some of the young people they have been interacting with during their time in Carpina. It was a blessing! We do not have the outside big area like at the camp any more but we have this big porch area which works great and lots of chairs.

January 15th 2nd Memory Verse

We are starting verse 2 in our memory verse books. I have picked Roman 3:23-26. Verse 23 is a well known verse but I am memorizing in Portuguese and have not ever memorized the other verse.

Summer in Brazil - Basketball Clinics

Summer in Brasil is here! People are busy trying to find a great get away vacation resort trip! But not for us! For us is a great time and lots of opportunities for ministry, so we get busy working.
Matthews 28:18 "Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In December, we have been pretty busy getting ready for our big mission trip in January and February. We are going deep in land in the Northeast to share the gospel. It is going to be dry and hot. Our II Atletas em Ação Mission trip will be going to the following cities:
1. Carpina PE-January 09th -14th.
2. Lagoa do Carro PE-January 16th-25th.
3. Barreiras PI -January 27th – February 2nd.
4. Monte Alegre PI- February 04th – 12th.
Our team is still working on the last details for the trip such as getting their written testimony ready, raising some more support by selling cookies, selling trip t-shirts, offering evangelistic brochures for donations and sending out support letters to friends. A big effort for a big cause!
We have 12 people signed up for the trip, and our adventure begins January 09th. We are all excited for this; we want to see how God is going to work through us.
Our strategy will be to use the sports as a platform to reach people. So we are planning to do basketball clinics, fun games and some fun skits.
Please pray for our team as we get ready to start our adventure in the Northeast.
Our team, Ro, Matheus, Priscila, Simone, Timothy, Jessica, Rodrigo, Liliane, Luizinho, Thiago, Luis Valter and Jucilene. Mention to the Lord for our travels, our ministry time with the kids as well as the church leaders, energy for our team to complete the tour in good shape and good health.

We need your prayers.

-Pray for safety during our trip, we are going to use the VAN for our transportation.
-We need about U$300 dollars more, a few more vests and basketballs to leave behind
-Pray for the people that will be exposed to the message of salvation.
-Pray for the pastors and church leaders we will contact to share , cast vision and train, we just want to serve the local church by giving them tools to work.
-Pray for our time as a team to just learn how to get along and love each other.
Our first mission will be to help to kick off one of the communities churches here near us in the town of Lagoa do Carro. We are going to help plant a church there, so we are really excited about this.

Pernanbuco, our new home state will be a city host for the World Cup in 2014. Our effort is to cast sport ministry vision to as many church leaders as we can, help them and train them. We want to start spiritual movements every where through the platform of sports Ministries. So our mission trip is with a purpose and we want to be wise with our contacts.

New Year's Eve at Church

We are at church on New Year's Eve and these are some of our neighbors coming to church with us, Junior, Patricia, Carol, Rafaela, Cauan. Priscila is with us too! We had a BBQ and the kids got to swim after the church service. We pray these kids will be encouraged to have a personal relationship with God.

We are enjoying our new game from the Lang family. We also got the new game Wits and Wages which is fun and challenging for all. The other day was we had the question: What was the total number of points by both teams in one game in the NBA including the overtimes? The answer was over 300 because there were 3 overtimes. Nobody got that right.

Equipe de Memorizacao/ Scripture Memory Team

Psalms 119:11 "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

This year Athletes in Action is starting a team of people who want to work together to memorize God's word. In 1992, when I was playing basketball in Japan, a friend encouraged me to memorize Psalms 103. Since then nothing has made a greater impact in my walk with God then memorizing scripture. God using each of them that I am memorizing to talk, teach and encourage me. As I walk or run each morning, my little memorizing book goes with me.

Last year I participated with Beth Moore's group from Living Proof ministries that memorized 24 verses during the year. God used it greatly in my life. God encouraged me to start a group through AIA here in Brazil for my Brazilian friends too.

We will use her method. This is what you do: On the 1st and the 15th of each month each person picks the verse or verses that they would like to memorize. Write the verse in a little index card book for you to carry with you. They do not have them here in Brazil so I made some (picture above). Under the blogpost for the day on the 1st and then on the 15th, each person will write their name, where they are from, verse and address of the verse in the comment section at the end of the post. This is to keep us all accountable to each other. We can encourage each other not give up.

Because I have been doing this for a few years, I memorize more then one verse in the two week period but if you are starting out one verse is great! At the end of the year you will have learn 24 new verses! Each day as you memorize God will use that verse to talk, teach and encourage you too.

Este ano Atletas em Ação está começando uma equipe de
pessoas que querem trabalhar juntos com memorização da Palavra de Deus. Em 1992 quando eu estava morando no Japão
jogando Basketball, uma amiga me incentivou a memorizar Salmos 103. Desde de então, nada mais tem impactado minha
caminhada com Deus doque a memorização das escrituras. Deus tem usado Sua Palavra que tenho
memorizado, tem me ensinado e incentivado.
Aproveito para memorizar quando caminho e corro todas as manhãs com meu
livro de memorização.


No ano passado eu participei com o grupo de Beth Moore
de Living Proof Ministries. Nós memorizamos 24 versos durante o ano. Deus usou cada um deles grandemente em minha vida. Deus me incentivou a iniciar um grupo através
de AeA aqui no Brasil e quero convidar você.


Nós usaremos o seguinte método. Você pode fazer assim: A cada 15 dias, cada pessoa escolhe o seu versículo
ou versículos que gostariam de memorizar. Escreva o versículo em um pequeno
livro de fichas para você levar com você.
Estes caderninhos não tem pronto como mostro acima (foto acima). Mas
você pode fazer um ou comprar um caderninho de anotações. Neste Blog cada pessoa vai escrever o seu nome,
de onde é, o versículo e referência na
seção de comentários no final do postagem. Assim podemos incentivar uns aos outros não desistir.


Exemplo: Susan, Carpina-Brasil I Corinthians 15:1-4
"Agora, irmãos, quero lembrá-lo do evangelho que vos anunciei, o qual
recebestes e no qual você tenha tido o seu stand. Por meio deste evangelho
vocês são salvos, se você segurar firmemente à palavra que lhes preguei. Caso
contrário, você ter acreditado em vão. Por que eu recebi eu passei para você
como de primeira importância que Cristo morreu pelos nossos pecados, segundo as
Escrituras, que foi sepultado, que ressuscitou no terceiro dia, segundo as
Escrituras."

Serão dois versiculos por mês, começando no dia 1º. E iniciando
outro versiculo no dia 15, assim você terá memorizado no final do ano 24 novos
versiculos das escrituras. Nossa
esperança é que estes versiculos também o ensine, princípios da Palavra de
Deus. Cremos que Deus pode usar a Sua
palavra para ensinar e incentivá-lo em seu caminhar com Deus. Deus abençõe. Podemos gastar nosso tempo com coisas que
realmente importam.
